How does Unito compare with other ways to integrate Asana and Jira?

What does Asana's native Jira integration not cover?

Asana for Jira Cloud Data Sync runs on Business and Enterprise plans and supports Jira Cloud. Premium accounts get issue-to-task creation and a Jira widget. Unito runs on any Asana plan, maps Asana custom fields onto Jira custom fields and uses rules to decide which items sync.

Do custom fields sync between Asana and Jira?

Yes. Both connectors support custom fields, and you map them one at a time when you build the flow. Unito filters out Jira’s Agile custom fields, so greenhopper sprint fields do not appear in the mapping list.

Do comments sync between Asana and Jira?

New comments sync in both directions. Later edits and deletions do not. Unito can create a comment on an Asana task or a Jira issue, and it cannot update or delete one afterward. Plan for threads that append rather than change.

Can I sync only specific Asana projects with certain Jira projects?

Yes. By default each flow connects one Asana project to one Jira project, and you choose the pair when you build it. Syncing several Jira projects in one flow needs Unito sales to enable it. Rules then decide which items sync, by tag, assignee or status.

Does syncing Asana with Jira work for Jira Data Center?

Yes. Unito has a dedicated Jira Data Center connector, so an Asana pairing works on self-hosted Jira as well as Jira Cloud. Asana’s native Jira sync covers Jira Cloud only, which rules the native option out entirely for a Data Center instance.

Do attachments transfer between Asana and Jira?

Yes, and you choose how. Copied mode makes a binary copy of the file in the other tool, so it behaves like a native attachment. Linked mode syncs a link instead and keeps the original access control, with a toggle deciding whether viewers must log in first. Unito never stores your files.

Can I sync Jira epics into Asana?

Yes. Unito’s Advanced Sync holds hierarchies across the two tools, so a planning structure built in Asana maps into Jira with its hierarchy, work item types and key metadata preserved. Epic is a work type in your own Jira project, so what maps depends on how that project is configured.
