How do I set up the Asana + GitLab integration?

Does Unito support GitLab self-managed instances or only GitLab.com?

Both. Unito supports GitLab.com and GitLab self-managed (on-prem) instances. Authentication is per instance and the connector handles both API surfaces.

Is this true bidirectional sync or one-way automation?

It’s bidirectional. Asana task name, description, status and assignee sync two-way with GitLab issue title, description, state and assignee. Flow direction and per-field direction are set separately, so even a one-way flow can still sync field updates both ways.

Do custom fields map between the two tools, and in which direction?

Yes. Asana custom fields (date, multi-select, number, people, single-select) map by type, and most types can fall back to a text field. Each mapping is set one-way or two-way on its own; some stay one-way when the other tool has no equivalent field.

Can I sync only some Asana tasks or GitLab issues rather than everything?

Yes. Rules limit the flow to work items matching specific tags, assignees or statuses, and every condition on a rule must be met for an item to sync. Rules can also trigger actions, such as auto-assigning a synced item to a specific person.

Does setting up the Asana + GitLab integration require a developer or API work?

No. Unito is a no-code, point-and-click setup, and Unito states a flow can be built in minutes without coding knowledge. Enterprise or on-premise editions can add tool-specific admin steps.

Do comments and attachments carry across?

Yes. Comments and attachments sync between Asana tasks and GitLab issues. For most connectors, comment sync carries new comments only, not edits to ones already synced. By default, synced comments post under the flow builder’s account, with the original commenter’s name shown in the comment.
